Kids and the outside world.

So Wyatt was being a doggie this morning before school, it took a little coaxing to convince him to walk on his hind legs to the car (he did make a few snowy 4 legged steps!) and I told him he could be a doggie when he got to school. So as soon as his jacket was off, he was a doggie, running on all fours to find a special toy. And then he got self conscious. I could see he felt the other kids looking at him and was not sure he wanted to continue with this play. I found it profoundly sad that he was concerned what the other kids thought. How do you encourage kids to keep being themselves and be creative while around others?

Foxhill Drive.

We went to visit Babci and Dziadzia's (my late grandparent's) house and I took a bunch of photos. While we were there, it felt like Babci and Dziadzia were going to stick there heads around the corner and tell us to "sit down and stay awhile". It was strange to be there without them. I tried to breath in just a little more of them, I have always loved the musty woody smell of their basement and I opened the linen closet and I smelled the same towels they would send us down to the pool with. As I was putting together the photos it became very clear that they are no longer at there, the photos, individually bring back happy memories, but when put together have a sad empty tone. Babci and Dziadzia's home is transforming into a house.

Scarfs and Tooth fairy Pillows

Here are a few more creations.

Pjs.

I am loving the matching PJs. It might be a dangerous thing if I had twins...

Sweet little birds...

I made these little sweeties for Christmas gifts. I might have to make a flock for our own tree.

New Haven.

Dinos and Cadens and who is that little sweetie with Roland?

Emmet Otter Jugband Christmas.

My mom and Dad took the family to the Goodspeed Opera House. I love the Goodspeed, mostly because when I was 10, my parents took me (no brothers!) to watch 1920 revival musicals. Eventually my brothers were invited too and we would all get dressed up and drive up the Connecticut river to the Opera House. We would find our seats, and enjoy the show, a Shirley Temple at intermission and maybe get to see the swinging bridge swing as a sailboat passed. This Christmas the Goodspeed put on a musical based on the book, Emmet Otter Jugband Christmas, and a Jim Henson 1970's TV special. It was fantastic, all sorts of puppets, great singers and Dad bought me my Shirley Temple.

What a great week

We had a wonderful week in Connecticut with my family. It was just what we needed, to be taken care of, put life in perspective, and celebrate! We even got a little Chihuly in...mmm Chihuly.
